The Bodyguard

The Bodyguard is an iconic film featuring Kevin Costner and the late Whitney Houston. The 1992 romantic thriller has since been made into a musical that features the fire, love, passion and edge-of-the-seat thrills that viewers experience when first watching the film.

London’s Adelphi Theatre adapted the film in 2012 in the West End.

David Ian, the musical’s producer, was granted rights to perform the show on stage by a star in the movie, Kevin Costner, and the movie’s writer, Kasdan. The musical stays true to the movie,with the soundtrack used in the production’s score.

Several of Houston’s hit songs from the best-selling soundtrack make the musical, including “I’m Every Woman” and “Queen of the Night.” A variety of women have starred as the role of Rachel,who was played by Houston in the film.

Heather Headley, award-winning singer and actress, has played Rachel as well as Beverley Knight, who took over the role in September 2013 and stayed in her position until May 2014. Alexandra Burke would then take the role before Deborah Cox, R&B singer, took the lead.

The Bodyguard, the musical, is now stunning audiences across the world, with productions throughout the U.K., US, Germany, Korea, Ireland, Europe and Utrecht. The musical’s success has led to plans for the musical to make its debut in several new countries this year, with shows scheduled in Australia, Italy and Spain. The show will also make its way to Toronto.

Deborah Cox maintains the lead role of Rachel Marron alongside other big names, including:

• Judson Mills, who played Frank Farmer, the role played by Costner in the film. Mills grew up in Nothern Virginia in a home previously built by George Washington. Mills attended the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Mills has guest starred on numerous television shows, with 35 roles played. He has also appeared on 20 feature films during his career.
• Douglas Baldeo plays the role of Fletcher in the musical. Baldeo has played on Broadway in the Kinky Boots show as well as several other appearances during The Preacher’s Wife, Christmas in Rockerfeller Center and So You Think You Can Dance.

The cast also includes over a dozen additional roles, including: Alex Corrado as Tony Scibelli, Jarid Faubel as Ray Court, Jonathan Hadley as Sy Spector, Charles Gray as Bill Devaney, andJorge Paniagua as The Stalker.

The Bodyguard is considered an instant classic, with “I Will Always Love You“ also heard during the musical.
